{"id":5434,"date":"2019-08-31T11:56:38","date_gmt":"2019-08-31T11:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orca.rs\/what-is-your-place-in-serbia\/"},"modified":"2021-11-20T23:08:30","modified_gmt":"2021-11-20T23:08:30","slug":"what-is-your-place-in-serbia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orca.rs\/en\/what-is-your-place-in-serbia\/","title":{"rendered":"What is your place in Serbia?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a thousand problems affecting animals and nature in Serbia, but even more inspirational stories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to support and encourage changes\u00a0in areas of animal welfare and nature protection, ORCA will support authentic citizens\u2019 initiatives from all of Serbia. These initiatives are led and conducted by local activists, who will invest into them their own knowledge and energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ORCA believes that citizens have great power in their hands and that dedicated individuals and groups can make big changes in their communities. These changes can occur only if they act sistemically, deliberately and persistently<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We want to use our 18-year-long experience and knowledge and to inspire, enocourage and support activism!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though local communities have enough resources to become better, they have to recognize those resources and dedicate them to the benefit of the whole community. We want to take part in creating active environment which will know how to recognize opportunities and take chances for progress and development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We support local initiatives with our partners: National Coalition for Decentralization, Centre for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA), \u201cJelena \u0160anti\u0107\u201d foundation, Media and Reform Center Ni\u0161 through\u00a0 \u201cYour place in Serbia\u201d project, financed by United States Agency for International Development (USAID).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiatives that ORCA supported during 2019:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><b>\u201cKeepers of the Seed\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: More than 30 agricultural producers\u00a0 from the town of Mionica, led by the organisation \u201cFrame of Life\u201d decided to form a group titled \u201cKeepers of the Seed\u201d and work to protect indigenous varieties of fruits and vegetables, bring them back to our tables and enable us to buy and eat healthy food!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>Let\u2019s protect river Nera together\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Nera, the only mountain river that flows through flat Vojvodina Province and meanders through one of its most attractive protected areas, is threatened by human activities. Organisation \u201cAurora\u201d and citizens from Bela Crkva, opened a dialogue with municipal authorities in order to better protect river Nera.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><b>\u201cOn the edge of survival\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Did you know that the largest and the rarest eagle in Serbia \u2013 golden eagle flies above Arilje? Organisation \u201cRzav\u201d, supported by Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia, decided to make a feeding ground for vultures and other species of birds and mammals above river Veliki Rzav and include whole community in caring for these species.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><b>\u201cKNIToMANIA\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> uses an innovative way to reuse plastic bags and protect environment from plastic, by knitting products\u00a0 from used plastic bags. Senior citizens who want to make extra money knit products from plastic bags, remove them from nature and make their life cycle longer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><b>\u201cFor cleaner Sokobanja\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: In order to open a dialogue about better waste management in one of the tourist oases in Serbia \u2013 Sokobanja, members of Sokobanja\u2019s ecological society visited 90 households, recorded all illegal dumps in Sokobanja with help from more than 100 citizens, and cleaned an illegal dump placed near the river with more than 60 citizens.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><b>\u201cGreen tourist oases in Bor\u201d:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> European long-distance paths cover almost entire Europe and two of these paths can be found in Serbia. Mountaineers, tourists and all those who want to get to know Europe\u2019s specifities and enjoy nature by walking, use these roads. Organisation \u201eEkoba\u0161tina\u201c from Bor, marked the part of the route which passes through Bor with signs. They wanted to make the traveling easier for tourists and to prevent walking in the zones that are under protection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><b>\u201cLet\u2019s turn \u0160umarice green\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u0160umarice is not only important cultural\u00a0 heritage site, but also represents the lungs of the Serbian city of Kragujevac! \u0160umarice is the largest urban park in Serbia, bigger even than New York\u2019s Central Park.
