A large number of pets are lost, abandoned or stolen every year and many owners never find them. Chipping and registering dogs and cats is a legal obligation of every owner. Registering and tagging a pet dramatically increases the chances of being found. The search costs are reduced and its security is increased. At the same time, you and your pet avoid unnecessary sadness and suffering over separation.<\/p>\n

Chipping and registration are the best and most effective way to permanently tag your dog and thus ensure its reliable trace if lost.<\/strong><\/p>\n

How does microchip work?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Once an animal is microchipped, it has a unique code<\/strong>. This code is actually an identification number that is entered into the database along with the owner’s information. The microchip can be read using a special scanner. After that, all it takes is to find the identification number in the database and return the animal to its owner. Every veterinary station, outpatient clinic and zoo has access to the base.<\/p>\n

According to the Rules on the Method of Tagging and Registering Dogs and Cats<\/strong>, the owners or keepers of dogs and cats tag and register dogs and cats in accordance with the law governing veterinary medicine. All newborn dogs and cats found in the territory of the Republic of Serbia subject to tagging at the latest during the first vaccination against viral diseases.<\/p>\n

Each state may have one or more tagged pet databases. In Europe, all bases are connected electronically. This means that upon registration and tagging, your pet is given a unique number that does not exist anywhere in the world and in the event of its disappearance can be searched in any country with a networked base.<\/p>\n<\/div>\"Chipping<\/span>

Is the microchip easy to place?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Yes! Easy, fast and painless. The microchip is very small – the size of a grain of rice – and is placed in a syringe-like applicator with a special needle. Using the applicator, the vet places the microchip under the skin on the left side of the middle part of the dog’s neck or midway between the shoulder blades. The procedure is simple, very similar to vaccination, and takes only a few seconds. Once placed under the skin, the microchip cannot be seen or moved but can be read using a scanner.<\/p>\n

How long does a microchip last?<\/span><\/h4>\n

A microchip lasts your pet’s entire life span. Manufacturers say it is functional for at least 25 years, so it does not need any replacement.<\/p>\n

Is a microchip harmful to a pet’s health?<\/span><\/h4>\n

No, it is completely safe. Chipping is not painful to the pet, does not leave a scar and does not affect the movement of the animal, or otherwise alter its physical characteristics. The misconceptions that a chip can enter the bloodstream or radiate are completely unfounded and inaccurate.<\/p>\n

The chip is placed in a biotolerant glass capsule (well tolerated by the tissue) and is sterile when applied, so there is no possibility of any infection. Once applied, the chip cannot be moved, and can only be removed by surgery. The microchip under the skin is completely inert (not reactive) and has no energy. It is designed to reflect the signal it receives from the reader, but cannot send it independently.<\/p>\n

What animals can be microchipped?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Most animals can be tagged with a microchip – dogs, cats, horses, rodents, birds, reptiles, fish; but for now, it is mandatory in our country to tag only dogs and cats. The law requires tagging of newborn dogs at the first rabies vaccination, as well as adult dogs, at the latest at the mandatory annual rabies vaccination. All imported dogs that are not permanently tagged are to be tagged within 15 days of entry into the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\"Dogs<\/span>

How much does microchipping cost?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Prices vary, but a one-time cost will ensure your pet a place in the database, and thus its safety for life. Your information can be easily updated if you change your address or phone.<\/p>\n

My pet has a collar with an identification pendant, so why should I chip it?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Because the collar can be torn off or someone can take it off and the pendant can snap and fall off, or the owner’s information may be illegible. Microchipping is a durable and reliable method of marking a pet, and its main advantage is that it cannot be lost. In fact, it is advisable that your pet wears an identification pendant on the collar, in addition to the microchip and the medallion indicating it is chipped.<\/p>\n

Why should I worry if a dog wanders off? It will probably take a little walk and will come back.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Do not leave to chance anything that may happen to your pet during his \u201cwalk\u201d in the neighborhood while unattended. A dog can wander off and get lost, be injured in a territorial confrontation with another male, be hit by a car, or injured by an unconscious citizen. An uncastrated male can mate with an abandoned female and thus contribute to the problem of abandoned dogs. An unsterilized female can mate with an abandoned male and you have unwanted puppies. Your dog can even hurt someone, and being unattended will be considered a stray and can be caught stray dog service.<\/p>\n

Your pet needs your attention, time and dedication, so think carefully before taking on the obligation and responsibility of keeping a pet. Chipping and registration are part of that responsibility.<\/p>\n<\/div>
