OUR MISSION
ORCA is a civil society organization that helps people in Serbia and the Western Balkans care about the nature and wellbeing of animals in order to achieve personal, economic and social development.
We accomplish our mission through public advocacy, research, education and monitoring of the implementation of policies and regulations. We influence the adoption of better laws, their implementation and change in the society’s culture regarding nature and animals.

Everyone has the right to preserved nature and sustainable use of natural resources, and that animals should live a life free from the pain, suffering and stress human beings can cause them.
Nature conservation, animal welfare and human survival are linked to the extent that these issues cannot be viewed separately.
Man has a moral obligation and duty to provide the present and future generations with the availability of natural values without which life on Earth is not possible.
To the animals he keeps, man must provide the conditions appropriate to their needs. Otherwise, he must not keep them.
In all activities in the field of agriculture, fishery, transport, trade, research and technological development, as well as in other areas that can directly or indirectly affect the nature or animal welfare, full attention must be paid to the protection of nature, i.e. animal welfare.
The reasons why nature and animals are used must be constantly reconsidered in broad social dialogue.

We especially emphasize volunteers. For the first ten years, ORCA worked solely as a volunteer organization: volunteers laid the foundation for what ORCA is today.

ORCA IS NOT
An Animals Right and Liberation Organization
We accept the fact that man must use animals to meet his basic needs, provided that the pain, suffering and stress of the animals are avoided.
Vegetarian organization
We consider farm animal welfare standards to be a key factor in the safety and security of food of animal origin and the environment. Therefore, we recommend eating those foods that are produced in compliance with animal welfare and environmental standards
International Organization
ORCA has grown from a local organization founded by a group of students and professors at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Belgrade to one of the most influential civil society organizations in Serbia. Today, we implement activities in the Western Balkans.
Organization that deals with Animal Rescue
Although many think that ORCA is involved in the care and rescue of animals, we bring people together and launch actions, conduct research, disseminate knowledge, advocate better laws, monitor the implementation of policies and regulations, and thus work to change society’s attitude to animals and nature.
