I can still clearly remember the day my friends, professors and I founded ORCA, 20 years ago today. From the very beginning, we believed that we had to help people get to know the amazing world of animals and thus strengthen their respect and care for animals.
Our perseverance and persistence would have gone unnoticed if we had not had the support of the community since the founding of ORCA. That is the support of every individual who wanted to get involved in our work, become a part of ORCA, or share the news about our common success.
Together, we have contributed to increasing penalties for animal abusers and the adoption of the Animal Welfare Act. We have protected fur animals, so their breeding for fur production is now banned. Thanks to Mrs. Ljubinka Vivčar and donations from kind people who recognized her act of kindness, we founded the first Student dorm for animal welfare and nature protection. When we started receiving donations for abandoned animals and people who take care of them responsibly, we realized that we are on the right path. We also take pride in supporting citizens’ initiatives on animal welfare and nature protection in local communities.
We have launched the Leadership Training Program within ORCA Academy to share the knowledge and experience we have gained over these two decades. This program is intended for all those successful professionals who are ready to apply their knowledge and skills to protect nature and improve animal welfare. In addition to free training, we also offer financial support for the realization of participants’ ideas that contribute to civic activism and the mobilization of local resources aiming to protect nature and animals. The contest is open until November 30, so please apply or forward it to someone who would like to.
Together, we have had many accomplishments in the past, but I am sure that there are many more of them ahead of us.
Thank you for being a part of ORCA!
