“Bee friendly to Nature: Advocating for evidence-based Nature based solutions for people and nature in Serbia” (2022-2024)

An advocacy for nature-based solutions for people and nature in Serbia “Bee friendly to nature” is implemented with the aim of developing evidence-based recommendations for pollinator protection policies in Serbia, through: research, networking, strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations and creating a culture of support and understanding for the implementation of nature protection activities in Serbia.

The main activities of the project are:

  1. Ecological research that is carried out with the aim of identifying the species and genetic diversity of pollinators in different types of habitats in Serbia, their mutual connections, connections with food sources, as well as the identification of the relationship between honey bees and other pollinator species in the investigated areas;
  2. Establishment of a Working Group for the implementation of a comparative analysis of European legal and strategic documents and the identification of opportunities for the introduction of pollinator protection measures in agriculture, forestry, urban environments and protected areas. Together with the results of field research, the platform will develop recommendations for pollinator protection policies in Serbia;
  3. Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations through ORCA Academy Leadership training and mentoring programme, on topics of advocacy and organizational development in the field of nature protection. The program will be implemented within the framework of the fourth and fifth generation of the Leadership training and mentoring program, lasting 12 months per generation;
  4. Creating a culture of support and understanding for the implementation of nature protection activities in Serbia through a public campaign, the award “Bee friendly to nature” and the development of an internet platform dedicated to the connection between culture and nature.

The main target groups of the project are: decision-makers at the national and local level, professional and scientific organizations and research institutions, farmers, consumers and their associations, civil society organizations, media.

The project is financed by the European Union and implemented by ORCA in partnership with the Jelena Santic Foundation as part of the European Union’s Civil Society Facility Programme 2020 – Support to Civil Society capacities for the period 2022-2024.
